Last updated 24 October 2026

FlagQuiz.co is an independent website about the flags of the world. This page explains where the information on our flag pages comes from and how we keep it accurate.

Sources

Every flag page lists the sources it was checked against at the bottom of the page. For most flags these are the Wikipedia article on the flag and Flags of the World, a long-running reference site run by flag researchers. Where we can, we also use national flag laws, constitutions and government pages. When sources disagree on a date or a meaning, we follow the country's own law or constitution. If that isn't clear, we give only what the sources agree on, such as the year without the day, or leave the point out.

What we write

Each flag page gives a short description of the design, what the colours and symbols stand for, how the flag was adopted and the main earlier versions. We keep pages short and stick to facts that can be checked. Many flag meanings were never set in law; when that is the case, the page says so.

We use software, including AI tools, to help gather information and draft pages. Every fact on a flag page is checked against the sources listed on that page before it is published.

Flag images

Flag images come from the open-source flag-icons project and are shown in a 4:3 frame so flags are easy to compare in quizzes. The official proportions are listed on each flag page. See credits for licences.

Names and status

Our 195 countries are the 193 UN member states plus Vatican City and Palestine. Territories and states with limited recognition have their own pages. Showing a flag or a name isn't a statement about any territory's political status.

Updates and corrections

Countries change their flags from time to time. When that happens we update the image, the description and the quizzes, and each page shows when it was last reviewed. If you find a mistake, email hello@flagquiz.co with the page and, if possible, a source. We correct confirmed errors and update the review date.
