About the Oceania flag quiz

Oceania is a small quiz with some of the trickiest flags in the world. Australia, New Zealand and Tuvalu all carry the Union Jack, and the Southern Cross appears again and again.

Pacific island flags often use stars to stand for islands, and waves, canoes and birds for the ocean around them. Learn the stars and you'll get most of them right.

Quick tips

  • Australia's stars are white; New Zealand's are red with white borders.
  • Palau's yellow disc on blue looks like Japan's flag in reverse colours.
  • Turn on territories to add the Cook Islands, Guam and French Polynesia.

Want to study first? Every flag is on our Oceanian flags page, with names, capitals and what each design means.

How to play

  1. Choose your difficulty. Easy gives you four answers, Hard asks you to type the country (with suggestions) and Expert takes the suggestions away.
  2. Pick how many questions you want: a quick round of 10, or all 14 flags. Turn on the timer if you want to race the clock.
  3. Answer each flag. Get it wrong and we'll show you the right answer and its capital, so you learn as you play.
  4. At the end, review the flags you missed and practise them until they stick.

Want a different challenge? Switch the mode to Find the flag: we show you a country's name and you pick its flag from four options.
