Flag families in Oceania
Four flags in Oceania still include the Union Jack: Australia, New Zealand, Tuvalu and Fiji. The Southern Cross constellation appears on the flags of Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Samoa, drawn a little differently on each.
Pacific island states that became independent from the 1960s onwards mostly chose new designs. Stars often stand for islands or states: Micronesia's four stars are its four states, and Tuvalu's nine stars are its islands.
How to learn them
Count the stars. It is the quickest way to tell the Southern Cross flags apart.
