Flag of French Guiana
This is the French tricolour: three equal vertical bands of blue, white and red. It is the official flag of French Guiana.
What the flag means
Blue and red are the traditional colours of Paris. Lafayette called the white the ancient French colour.
History
The best-known local flag is yellow and green with a red star. The Guyana Agricultural and General Workers' Union designed it in 1967, and the departmental council later adopted it. In a 2010 statement the council said green is the forest, yellow is gold and other minerals, and the star is blood or socialism. The tricolour remains the official flag.
