Flag of Anguilla
A Blue Ensign with the coat of arms in the fly. The shield shows three orange dolphins leaping in a circle on white, above a band of light blue.
What the flag means
The CIA World Factbook gives the dolphins as unity, strength and endurance. It says the white stands for peace and the light blue for the sea, faith, youth and hope.
History
After Anguilla was grouped with Saint Kitts in an associated state, Anguillans expelled the Saint Kitts police and declared the Republic of Anguilla. Flags of that time included a mermaid flag (1967) and the Dolphin Flag (1967–1969). Britain placed the island under direct rule with the Anguilla Act 1971. The Blue Ensign with the dolphin arms was adopted on 30 May 1990, and the badge was redrawn in 1999.
The Dolphin Flag is still widely flown on the island as an all-purpose civil flag.
