Flag of Curaçao
A blue field with a yellow horizontal stripe below the middle. Two white five-pointed stars sit in the upper hoist, the smaller one above and to the left of the larger.
What the flag means
The CIA World Factbook explains the blue above and below the stripe as the sky and the sea, and the yellow as the sun. The two stars are Curaçao and Klein Curaçao, and their five points the five continents from which Curaçao's people came.
History
Curaçao was allowed its own flag in 1979, after Aruba had adopted one. A special council received 2,000 designs, shortlisted ten and made its choice on 29 November 1982. The flag was adopted with some changes on 2 July 1984. It became the flag of the constituent country when the Netherlands Antilles was dissolved in 2010.
