Flag of Caribbean Netherlands
This is the flag of the Netherlands: three equal horizontal bands of red, white and blue. It is used for Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba as a group.
What the flag means
The flag comes from the orange, white and blue Prince's Flag, based on the livery of William of Orange. Red gradually replaced orange between about 1630 and 1660.
History
Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba became special municipalities of the Netherlands when the Netherlands Antilles was dissolved on 10 October 2010. Each island also has its own flag. Bonaire's, with a black compass and a red six-pointed star, was adopted on 11 December 1981. For the Dutch flag itself, a royal decree issued by Queen Wilhelmina on 19 February 1937 confirmed red, white and blue as the colours.
An orange pennant is usually flown above the Dutch flag on King's Day.
