Flag of Norfolk Island

What the flag means

The green is usually explained as the island's plentiful vegetation and fertile land. The Norfolk Island pine is native to the island and is its official tree.

History

The flag was adopted in 1979, when Norfolk Island gained limited self-government. It is governed by the Norfolk Island Flag and Public Seal Act 1979, which received royal assent on 17 January 1980.

Its layout of green, white and green vertical bands is the same as the flag of Nigeria.
