Flag of Pitcairn Islands
A Blue Ensign with the coat of arms in the fly. The green, yellow and blue shield bears an anchor and a Bible, and a wheelbarrow and a sprig of miro sit on the crest.
What the flag means
The shield's colours show Pitcairn rising from the Pacific. The anchor and Bible come from HMS Bounty, and the Bible also stands for the Christianity the mutineers brought. The wheelbarrow and miro stand for the farming that kept the settlers alive; miro wood is also used for carving souvenirs.
History
The coat of arms was granted by royal warrant on 4 November 1969. The Island Council proposed the flag in December 1980, and it was granted on 2 April 1984. It was first flown in May 1984, during a visit by Governor Richard Stratton.
