Flag of Wallis and Futuna
The French tricolour, blue, white and red. It is the official flag of Wallis and Futuna and the one used on official occasions.
What the flag means
Blue and red are the old colours of Paris, associated with Saint Martin and Saint Denis. Lafayette called the white the ancient French colour.
History
An unofficial local flag, in use since 1985, is red with the French tricolour in the canton and a white square bearing a red saltire, set towards the fly. It is used de facto, especially at sporting events. The three traditional chiefdoms, Uvea, Alo and Sigave, have flags of their own.
